Automating payment processing from 5 days to 3 minutes

Overview
In 2024, Tatari partnered with Kevin O'Leary to introduce Wonder Ads, a self-serve TV advertising platform that transforms TV advertising for small businesses.

While traditional TV advertising can require minimum media spends of $250,000+, Tatari enables businesses to start with budgets as low as $2,500. The platform simplifies a traditionally complex process that involves multiple stakeholders, lengthy approval cycles, and complicated processes across hundreds of TV partners.
Business Impact
The current payment model creates operational bottlenecks that affect our ability to handle 200+ weekly transactions
Tatari requires pre-payment for advertising spots before buying. This is not standard for AdTech platforms and unfortunately, we've lost clients because of it.
Solution
New payment model for automated processing
The new payment model would introduce credit cards as the main form of payment. It also ensure payments would be received either by threshold or time-based.
Clients have to pay before their commercial spots air, creating a high-friction payment experience.
Aligning with industry standards for a clean and automated payment experience
After reviewing AdTech Platforms such as Google Ads, Facebook, and Youtube common design patterns surfaced such as progressive disclosure and payment visualizations.
Progressive Disclosure
Progress Status
Introducing financial transparency
Progress visualization to show spend towards payment
Feature: Payment Threshold Communication
Reasoning:
Rather than burying billing details in lengthy explanations, I created a visual progress system that shows users exactly where they stand relative to their next payment cycle
Creating contextual payment history
Feature: Payment Dashboard
Reasoning:
I balanced the need for detailed transaction records with clean information architecture, ensuring users can quickly scan payment history while accessing granular details when needed.
Designing proactive error prevention
Translating technical constraints into user-friendly guidance
Design Strategy: Through workshops with Engineering, I mapped the technical complexity of payment validation into a user-centered design that prevents errors before they occur and provides clear recovery paths when they do.
Designing transparent payment safeguards
Feature: Credit Card Management
Reasoning:
Preventing campaign interruptions requires seamless payment backup systems and proactive error handling. I designed clear visual indicators and smart defaults that help users manage their payment methods while ensuring campaigns never pause due to payment failures.
Automating away a 5-day manual process for payments
Our automated payment system didn't just speed things up—it completely transformed our operational efficiency. Beyond the immediate 99% reduction in processing time, this automation eliminated dependencies across departments, while establishing a new standard for self-service experiences.
